Hi, I’m Katy!
Several years ago, me and my 4 handsome men (3 boys and husband, Philip) embarked on a journey of self-employment, self-discovery, and being love to the world. For us, our dream is to be together as much as possible, as we believe that the home and a loving family is the ideal model of God’s heart. It took some getting used to, and many people thought (and still do) that we are crazy, and that’s okay.
Homeschooling hasn’t always been the mode of education in our family. Philip was homeschooled the whole way through, but until I met him in college, I had never known anyone to do this. I thought it was weird, and protocol was LOTS of denim, long braids, and a goat. I do have a degree in education, but have no desire to teach in a typical classroom. Other kids are… not my thing. God bless you, if they are. There’s so much more flexibility, pace derivation, and creativity in this set-up, and it’s now hard to see us doing anything different, though if we are led to, we will. My hope is that I can dispel some stereotypes about homeschooling to those who may be unfamiliar. People homeschool their children for all kinds of reasons, just like with anything. Our reasons include schedule flexibility so we can travel, independent thinking (teaching them they can be productive members of society WITHOUT being part of the “system”, and instilling a compassionate world-view. Could you do this and educate your children in a more traditional way? Maybe. But for US, this is the path we’ve chosen, and we’re so grateful we have and we can.
We love to travel, so we’re doing that more. I love to cook, so we do that most often. We love music. We love family and friends. And we are happiest when we are together.
